The Oblates of St. Benedict
Lay Members of the Benedictine Family
Since the time of St. Benedict, lay men and women have been inspired by the spirituality and Gospel simplicity of the Benedictine way of life. Some of these lay people—both married and single—seek a closer association with the Benedictine order. These are the Oblates of St. Benedict, an important part of the wider Benedictine family.
Living Lives Inspired by the Wisdom of St. Benedict
The Oblates of St. Benedict don’t live at the monastery. They have their own homes and often pursue regular careers. However, they are associated with a particular monastery—in the case of our own oblates, with Belmont Abbey Monastery. They use Scripture and the Rule of St. Benedict to shape their spiritual lives and daily activities so “that in all things God may be glorified.”
